Boyce Avenue @ The Powerstation : 30 Aug 2014

Boyce Avenue BOYCE AVENUE are making their long-awaited New Zealand debut, performing an all-ages show at The Powerstation.

Their YouTube channel has amassed a staggering 1.3 billion views and “the trio is YouTube’s most-followed band, with 5.6 million subscribers, more than Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.” (Billboard, April 2014).

Dismissing traditional avenues of charts, radio play and major label representation, brothers Alejandra, Fabian and Daniel Manzano – Boyce Avenue – sidestepped standard music industry conventions. The trio like nothing better than connecting directly with their audience, selling out shows in North America and Europe, as well as through their seemingly uncontainable social media reach.

“We’re so excited to be finally heading to New Zealand to play for our Kiwi fans, and we plan to make the Auckland show something really special!” Alejandro revealed.

Florida-based Boyce Avenue, popular for their strong acoustic roots and melodic rock sound, came together as a band in 2004 when eldest brother Daniel (bass, percussion, vocals) graduated from Harvard Law School and moved back to his home state where Fabian (guitar, vocals) and Alejandro (lead vocals, guitar, piano) were attending classes at the University of Florida. It was then the brothers began writing music and performing.

In 2007, the band started posting videos on YouTube of them performing original tracks as well as covering songs by their favourite popular artists such as Coldplay, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. The videos resonated instantly with YouTube viewers, growing exponentially into one of the most watched channels of all time.

Earlier this year Boyce Avenue released No Limits, a seven-track EP, their first collection of material since their 2010 debut full-length album, All We Have Left, featuring the tracks Every Breath, On My Way and Broken Angel. No Limits is home to tracks I’ll Be The One (featuring Milkman) and current single One Life.

The wait is over for the band’s numerous fans; finally it’s time to be apart of their energetic live shows, as the ‘brothers Boyce’ serve up their finest selection of original and cover songs, delivered as only they can.

Lead Zeppelin @ The Powerstation : 23 Aug 2014

Lead ZeppelinIt is no accident that Lead Zeppelin are widely regarded as one of the world’s finest tribute bands.  Mere slavish impersonation with costumes and silly wigs is not for them.  Instead they focus on what really matters:  the music.  Every detail, every instrument, every amplifier is the real deal – as lead guitarist Ben Fulton says “It’s the only way to get that sound – all the right amplifiers, echo units, guitars, effects – the right ingredients to create the magic”.  Fulton himself has made a career out of the endless search for just the right guitar tone – he owns guitar effects pedal company Red Witch Analog Pedals, whose pedals are used by (to name but a few) Andy Summers, The Edge, Slash and yes, even certain ex-members of Led Zeppelin!

Their August tour sees the band recreate the original Zeppelin’s legendary 1973 concert ‘The Song Remains The Same’: over two-and-a-half hours of Zeppelin in their prime, performed by passionate fans who also happen to be acclaimed musicians.  As Singer Jamie Agnew explains ‘It’s how we learned our craft as teenagers, Zeppelin has been a massive part of our lives”.  Fulton and Agnew were able to spend some time with Led Zeppelin’s singer Robert Plant during his recent world tour and were impressed by their long-time hero’s warmth and generosity:  “It was amazing, such a grounded and warm soul – it was an extraordinary experience to meet the man – and inspiring, he’s a constantly evolving musician”.

The band is comprised of NZ musicians Jamie Agnew, Ben Fulton, Matt Payne and Tom Pierard, all of whom have impressive resumes and stellar reputations within the NZ music scene.  Occasionally they take time out of their regular projects to come together as Lead Zeppelin, a rare event that should not be missed by anyone with even a passing interest in the legendary 70s band.

Ladi6 with Team Dynamite @ The Powerstation : 22 Aug 2014

ladi6Released last year to great acclaim, their third album AUTOMATIC was recorded between Detroit’s legendary Studio and Revolver Studios in Waiuku. It was hailed by the NZ Herald in a breathless five-star review as a ‘sonic stunner’, and even professional curmudgeon Simon Sweetman declared it “the record of her career”..”slinky and groovy and – sonically – it’s a joy”. It debuted at number three on the national charts and featured on many end-of-year ‘best of’ lists.

This year has seen the band make their dubut tour of Brazil, and they are about to embark on a comprehensive tour of Europe and, for the first time, the US. Their mid-winter tour of NZ is something of a victory lap for Ladi, Parks, Brandon Haru and Julien Dyne – a band who have always let the music speak for itself.

In support are hotly-tipped Auckland hip-hop collective Team Dynamite. Their laid-back, jazz influenced style has invited comparisons to A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast and De La Soul, albeit with a distinctively NZ Flavour. Their latest release, the album Shepherd’s Delight features guest appearances from members of Hombrew, @peace and Che Fu and was highly praised by reviewers for its “great mix of sharp flow, clever lines and warm production, evoking the DIY East Coast sound of ’90s. [Team Dynamite] navigate easily between social commentary, quirky metaphors and retrospect.” (NZ Musician).

Hanson @ The Powerstation : 17 Aug 2014

HansonPop-rock trio, HANSON, are back with their brand new album ANTHEM, which is set to be released digitally on Friday 4th April in Australia and New Zealand, along with the album’s lead single Get The Girl Back.  The album’s release coincides with the announcement of the Australia and New Zealand leg of their ANTHEM World Tour.

This tour will mark the band’s first ever appearance in New Zealand, and a return for the band to Australia following their 2012 Shout It Out Tour, on which all shows across every major capital city sold out shortly after on sale.

As a part of the ANTHEM WORLD TOUR, special album bundles will be available for fans to purchase with their concert tickets.  All physical albums will be made available at the concerts, with digital copies available for immediate download.

The infectious new single Get The Girl Back, showcases the band’s signature soulful pop-rock sound, and features guest appearances from members of fellow pop-soul connoisseurs Fitz and The Tantrums.  The accompanying music video stars Kat Dennings (Two Broke Girls) and Nikki Reed (Twilight/Thirteen) and will be available for purchase exclusively as part of the Get The Girl Back single, also available digitally on Friday 4th April.

ANTHEM was produced and written by the band, and mixed by Tom Lord-Alge.  Its guitar-driven sound pulls from some of the band’s harder hitting rock and R&B influences – from James Brown, to early Michael Jackson, and AC/DC.  The band has been busy the last 12 months with album release and a world tour dates in North America, Latin America and Europe, garnering critical acclaim for the epic new album and fan fervor around the world.

ANTHEM is the bands 6th studio album and the fourth to be released on their own independent label 3CG Records, which they founded in 2003.

2013 marked the 21st anniversary of HANSON.  The band celebrated the anniversary with the launch of their own craft beer Mmmhops, inspired by the title of their breakout single.

HANSON have been nominated for multiple Grammys, released five prior studio albums, which spawned a string of hit singles, and sold over 16 million albums worldwide.
