Blacklistt @ The Powerstation : 31 May 2014

Blacklistt is one of New Zealand’s most iconic and successful rock/metal bands. Made up of 4 of the original 5 members of Blindspott, Blacklistt deliver a dynamic live performance like no other! Blacklistt look forward to playing their high energy set to their diehard fan base – “it’s time for us to deliver and give back to all our fans for their unwavering support over the last few years.”

Blacklistt released their self-titled album in September on Black Friday 2013. The album which features the aggressive track Burn, the signature sounds of Worth Fighting For and the hit single Home, debuted at No.1 on the NZ music charts. This follows in the same vein as the previous No 1 albums achieved under the Blindspott moniker, a Blacklistt gig is not complete without playing the classic tracks from their birth, the iconic riffs of S.U.I.T the anthemic Phlex and the mosh pit favourite Nil By Mouth.

The Always Tour follows a hugely successful summer of gigs for Blacklistt where they headlined at major festivals which included starting the New Year with a bang at Mt Vibes and playing to a capacity crowd at Homegrown in Wellington.

Damian Alexander comments “We have been hanging out to tour again ever since the albumtour, this one is going to be sick!!”

Black River Drive and Silence in the City will accompany Blacklistt on the North Island tour. Auckland rockers Black River Drive have recently returned from spending a couple of months in Nashville, TN where they recorded their second album with heavyweight hard rock producer Toby Wright (Ozzy Osbourne, Alice in Chains, Slayer) and can’t wait to unleash their new material.

Silence the City are a high energy, modern rock outfit from Auckland. The band have recently been writing new material for an upcoming release. Their latest single Closer is currently being smashed on air at The Rock FM.

Setting Fire To Stacey will support Blacklistt for the South Island gigs. Known for their hard hitting brand of modern rock, Christchurch’s Setting Fire To Stacey are the perfect storm of driving riffs and searing vocals, check out the new single No Way Out produced by Paul Mathews.

The Naked and Famous @ The Powerstation : 16-17 May 2014

The Naked and Famous

THE NAKED AND FAMOUS bring their In Rolling Waves Tour home to play Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday May 16 and Saturday May 17.

They wowed the Auckland Big Day Out crowd  with an electrifying set that the Herald called a “triumphant return”.  The New Zealand group also drew raves for their Australian Big Day Out shows before heading to the US to join Imagine Dragons on their current 22-date arena tour.

Touring their new album In Rolling Waves, The Naked And Famous have already played to sold out crowds of 5,000 over two nights in New York and packed out venues across the US, Canada, UK and Europe.

Powered by early singles Hearts Like Ours and I Kill Giants, In Rolling Waves is proving a worthy follow-up to break-out album Passive Me Aggressive You which featured the two million-selling hit single Young Blood.

The five-piece now call Los Angeles home and are a popular festival act around the world, performing at Glastonbury, Fuji Rock and Lollapalooza. Next up, they play Coachella before reaching New Zealand shores in May.

Don’t miss our own ascending sonic instrumentalists as they continue to shape the global landscape of modern music with their unique sound that the Guardian UK’s critic recently dubbed “audaciously epic pop-rock noir”.

DJ Premier & Pete Rock @ The Powerstation : 10 May 2014

DJ Premier & Pete Rock

Hip-hop heads rejoice. Rhythm Group Entertainment, Illusive and Frontier Touring are elated to kick off a brand new concert concept with two of the genre’s most iconic producers of all time. Collusion, a new event series which revolves around collaborative artist performances, will see its first installment in May with incomparable hip-hop legends DJ Premier & Pete Rock. Premo and Pete will be performing massive co-op DJ set at The Powerstation in what will be an extremely rare experience.

DJ Premier, arguably the greatest hip-hop producer in history, carries an unbelievably impressive CV. Emerging with the late Guru as half of the boundary-crossing duo GangStarr, he established himself as the face of the famed New York sound during rap’s ‘90s golden era. He produced some of the most iconic songs on some of the most acclaimed hip-hop albums of all time including Nas’ ‘NY State of Mind’, ‘Memory Lane’ and ‘Represent’, Biggie’s ‘Kick in the Door’, ‘Ten Crack Commandments’ and ‘Unbelievable’, Jay-Z’s ‘D’Evils’, ‘Friend or Foe’ and ‘Bring It On’ to name just a few. Throw in Big L, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, KRS-One, D’Angelo and Big Daddy Kane and you start to get an idea of his stature.

Alongside Premo atop the summit of legendary hip-hop producers stands the one and only Pete Rock. Rising to prominence as part of the seminal New York duo Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth in the early ‘90s, Pete went on to become one of the most beloved and respected hip-hop producers the genre has ever seen. He is behind classic beats by the likes of Rakim, Nas, M.O.P., Run DMC, Raekwon, Big L, Heavy D & The Boyz, Ghostface Killah, Das EFX and Boot Camp Clik. More recently, contemporary icons Kanye West and the late J Dilla both have listed Pete Rock as a major inspiration behind their sound, clearly illustrating his enormous impact on the culture.

Together, Pete and Premo will create the most formidable hip-hop production duo you’re likely to see on stage, ever. As producers they are in a league of their own and as DJs are considered some of the best in the game. Do not miss this.
